    Mirela Maniani (Greek: Μιρέλα Μανιάνι, [miˈrela maˈɲani], 21 December 1976) is a Greek retired track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw.

    Maniani was born as Mirela Manjani on 21 December 1976 in Durrës, Albania. In 1996, at the University of Alabama she set a new Albanian national record at 62.46 m (as of 2017, she still holds the national record of Albania).[2] She represented Albania at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, USA and ranked 24th overall. During the competition she was also Albania's flag bearer.[3]

    Miréla Manjani (gr. Μιρέλα Μανιάνι; Durazzo, 21 dicembre1976) è un'ex giavellottistaalbanesenaturalizzatagreca, campionessa mondiale ed europea della specialità.

    Biografia

    Nata in Albania, nel 1997 sposò il sollevatore di pesi Giorgios Tzelili, anch'egli albanese poi naturalizzato greco (il suo vero nome era Agim Xhelili). Presero la cittadinanza greca insieme e l'atleta, fino al divorzio nel 2002, era conosciuta anche come Miréla Manjani-Tzelili.

    Nelle grandi competizioni ha ottenuto due ori mondiali, a Siviglia 1999 e a Parigi Saint-Denis 2003, oltre ad un argento a Edmonton 2001. Ai Giochi olimpici vanta un argento a Sydney 2000 ed un bronzo ad Atene 2004. Vanta anche un oro europeo, conquistato a Monaco di Baviera 2002.

    Il suo primato personale, nonché record nazionale greco, lo ha stabilito ai Giochi olimpici di Sydney 2000 con la misura di 67,51 m.
