A son of President Paul Kagame has been appointed to the board of the Rwanda Development Board, RDB. 30-year-old Ivan Kagame is the eldest son of his parents. The Kagames have four children – three sons and a daughter.

The RDB is government machinery tasked with fast tracking the country’s economic development by enabling private sector growth. The US-educated Ivan joins as one of four new members announced by the Prime Minister’s office earlier this week.

In welcoming the new members, the board wrote about the young Kagame “Ivan Kagame is a partner at a Venture Capital fund, and co-founder of a leading energy company.

“Ivan brings a diverse skill set and vast experience in investment advisory services, entrepreneurship and investments management both in Africa and the USA. He holds a Bsc in Economics from Pace university and an MBA from the Marshall School at the University of Southern California.”

Ian Kagame was born on February 18, 1996, in Rwanda, into the eminent family of Paul Kagame, a military strategist who was one of the principal figures in putting an end to the 1994 Rwanda genocide and restoring peace to the once tumultuous nation, and is currently the President of Rwanda having served in that capacity since 2000, and Dr. Jeannette Kagame, an African fashion icon, philanthropist and advocate for women's and children's rights. Growing up during a pivotal era in Rwanda's recovery and growth, Ian was instilled with values of resilience, service and patriotism from an early age.

Kagame Sends Youngest Son to Military Academy in Sandhurst

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has sent one of his youngest sons Brian Kagame to a military academy in Sandhurst.

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) is one of the most prestigious military academies in the UK where all officers in the British Army are trained. Apparently, Ian Kagame has been enrolled to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to attend the military course. Ian is the third born and second youngest son to President Kagame.

President Kagame has desperately tried to persuade his sons to join the army. In 2010, he sent his eldest son Ivan Cyomoro Kagame to West Point Military Academy in the USA, but he dropped out, barely two months into his military cadet training due to “lack of interest in the army.”

During his visit to West Point Military Academy in 2010, Kagame denied pushing his son to join the army saying Ivan chose the military career himself.
