Biography
Mr. Butch Harmon burst onto the Las Vegas golf scene in 1997 with the opening of the Butch Harmon School of Golf at Rio Secco Golf Club. Golf is in the Harmon blood. His father is the legendary instructor Claude Harmon. Mr. Harmon has followed in his father’s footsteps and is recognized as one of the world’s best instructors, and has been voted as such by his peers for several years in a poll in Golf Digest.
Mr. Harmon has taught the game to the world’s best including Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Fred Couples, Natalie Gulbis, Adam Scott and many more, with many of those big names spending a lot of time at his school in Las Vegas. The presence of his school in Las Vegas has brought tremendous exposure to Las Vegas, helping it become one of the world’s best golf destinations

Butch Harmon
Butch Harmon has been involved in the golf arena for more than 50 years. His father, Claude Harmon, a renowned club and teaching professional and 1948 Masters Champion, introduced him to the game. Harmon followed in his father’s footsteps by playing on the PGA TOUR from 1969-71. In his final year on the PGA TOUR, Harmon won the B.C. Open.
His contributions to the game have continued after his playing career. For 16 consecutive years, Harmon has been voted as the top instructor in a poll of his peers as conducted by Golf Digest.
Harmon serves as the President of the Butch Harmon School of Golf, headquartered in Henderson, Nev. and has golf schools in Dubai and Florida.
Additionally, Harmon has been a teaching instructor to several PGA TOUR pros, including currently Nick Watney, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland, Jimmy Walker and LPGA Tour Star Natalie Gulbis and Suzann Pettersen. Being the game’s premier golfer is something that may last for two or three years, but to be voted the premier coach since 2003 is a unique achievement.
When your father was the winner of the 1948 Masters Tournament it is a given that the game of golf is a large part of your sporting DNA.
Born in 1943 Burch Harmon started playing the game at 8 yrs. old and entered the world of professional golf in 1965. After serving three years in the US army and seeing action in Vietnam he joined the PGA tour and enjoyed one win on the circuit before decamping to Morocco in the ’70s for several years, during which time he was the personal instructor to King Hassan.
On his return to the States, he became the club pro at Crow Valley in Iowa. It was here that his reputation started to grow due to his work with Greg Norman in the early 90s.
