History of post rock

Hammock

Client: “Mesmerizing and inspirational,” Hammock are one of Ricky Gervais’ favorite bands. He also said the Nashville duo is “like Radiohead does the best film score ever,” so it’s little wonder Gervais licensed several Hammock songs for his great Netflix show “After Life.” Many other directors and ad folks have done the same—here’s their song “Mysterium” in Nike’s poignant spot on Kobe Bryant.

Challenge: Synthesize myriad strands of the band’s history into a coherent narrative about its latest release, Silencia, one of NPR’s favorite releases of Nov. 2019

Execution: Mirror the contemplative Silencia in tone and content, using a story of hard-won sobriety and a deep love for poetry as windows into Marc and Andrew’s deeply felt tunes

This is what Ricky’s yammering about

"Listening to my new favorite band, Hammock. Mesmerizing and inspirational. They're like Radiohead does the best film score ever. Hammock is like wine and slippers to me now. And trust me when I say that's the biggest compliment possible." - Ricky Gervais

"7.6…speaks to all those things in our lives that aren't tangible, yet feel nearly within our grasp..." - Pitchfork

"Your albums are wonderful. You know the secret..." - Jónsi, Sigur Rós

"...crystalline guitar tones and gently pulsating synths convey a sense of broadness and space..." - The Wire

"...boundless, aquatic instrumental frescoes...an impeccable, womblike soundtrack."Oxford American

"...operates outside of genre, far beyond the now obvious limitations of the dream pop/shoegaze scene Hammock cut their teeth in." - All Music Guide

"You can certainly see why the Sigur Rós front man is so taken with Hammock: you'd be hard-pressed to find any music under the loose banner of post-rock as unreservedly beautiful and stately..."Boomkat

Hammock Theory is a jam band based in Greenville, SC. We draw inspiration from funk, rock, reggae, and jazz to deliver what has been best described as “feel good music”. Every Hammock Theory performance is unique and features original compositions, creative reinterpretations of classics, and innovative takes on popular hits.

The members of Hammock Theory have years of experience and many years of music together. The drummer, Aaron Bryant, and bassist, Jeremy Blake, have been playing together since 2017. In 2022 they met the guitarist and lead vocalist, Eric Mills and the rest is history.

Aaron Bryant was born and raised in the Muscle Shoals music scene. Aaron is the powerful drummer framing out our grooves from the water's edge. His drumming skills took him from college bands at Auburn to the Portland music scene. With self-described influences from John Coltrane to Vivaldi to Rush to Ry Cooder to Esperanza Spalding, Aaron incorporates it all into his unique musicality and style. When Aaron isn't performing with the band, he can be found making secret recipe BBQ sauc
