Melissa Morgan (born 1980) is an American jazz singer.

Music career

Morgan was born in New York City, and grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, where she attended Teaneck High School.[1][2] She began studying piano at age four. During high school she began singing with local choirs and was soon performing with vocal groups across the country and abroad. A highlight of her choir experience was a seven-country tour of Europe in 1996 with the U.S. Youth Chorale. As a student she was recognized with numerous awards, including three gold cups in the New Jersey Federation of Music solo piano competition, top ranking in the New Jersey all-state choir, and runner up for the New Jersey Governor's award for vocal music.[3]

Joyce Melissa Morgan[2] (usually spelled Meli'sa; born December 6, 1964) is an American R&B/Soul singer–songwriter. Morgan had a string of urban contemporaryhits from the mid–1980s to the mid–1990s. Most notable include her cover version of Prince's "Do Me, Baby" (1985), "Do You Still Love Me" (1986) and "Still in Love with You" (1992).

Early life

Born in Queens, New York, Morgan got her start in the music industry while singing with a church gospelchoir called the Starlets of Corona. Morgan cites Chaka Khan as a major influence.[2]

Career

1982–1992

Her initial chart entry was as the lead singer of the dance group, Shades of Love. They had a single entry at #26 on Billboard magazine's Hot Dance Club Playchart in 1982 with "Body to Body (Keep in Touch)."
