Scotty McCreery was born on October 9, 1993, in Garner, North Carolina, the son of Judy and Michael McCreery and brother to older sister Ashley.

His earliest musical influence was Elvis Presley. As he grew older, other musical heroes included Garth Brooks, George Strait, Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, Josh Turner, and R&B legend Charlie Wilson. He learned to play guitar by the time he was ten years old.

In his teens, McCreery attended First Baptist Church in Garner, where he led the church’s youth praise band, Audience of One. He also sang in his high school chorus and was a pitcher of his high school baseball team. 

At the age of 16, McCreery won a singing contest called “Clayton Idol,” which was held at the Clayton Harvest Festival in Clayton, North Carolina. Scott Cooke McCreery, more known as Scotty, is an American country music singer whose talents have set him apart in the genre. He was born on October 9, 1993, and his birthplace is Garner, North Carolina. He is of Puerto Rican descent and a Libra by design. McCreery has a sister, Ashley, and they were both raised in Garner. He attended Timber Drive Elementary School, Garner, West Lake Middle School, Apex, and Garner Magnet High School.
