Selected Opinions by Chief Justice Roberts:
Trump v. United States (2024)Topic:Separation of Powers
Under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts. There is no immunity for unofficial acts.
Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo (2024)
Topic:Government Agencies
Chevron is overruled. Courts must exercise their independent judgment in deciding whether an agency has acted within its statutory authority. Courts may not defer to an agency interpretation of the law simply because a statute is ambiguous.
United States v. Rahimi (2024)
Topic:Gun Rights
An individual found by a court to pose a credible threat to the physical safety of another person may be temporarily disarmed consistent with the Second Amendment.
