Abhishek Nandakumar Balakrishnan is the grandson of R. Srinivasan. Growing up in Texas, he spent most summer vacations in Madras living at Srinivasan's home at 21 Ammani Ammal Street. An engineer by education and entrepreneur by trade, Abhishek's bond with Srinivasan strengthened through his passion for Carnatic music. Today, Abhishek is an award-winning Carnatic violinist. But before music discovered him, his first passion in the arts was writing. Ironically, at the age of eleven, after Abhishek wrote a draft of his first fictional novel, he shared this achievement with his grandfather during one of his trips to Madras. Srinivasan immediately introduced him to the Wadhwa and Company, Nagpur publisher who signed a contract with Abhishek to publish the book and gave him a thousand rupee advance to encourage him to write a book. Abhishek's passion for storytelling, culture, traditions, and learning about his heritage led him to write his first book, a tribute to his grandfather's life and legacy, on the occasion of Srinivasan's ninetieth birth anniversary.
