Joanna Hardin is an American softball coach who is the current head coach at Virginia.[1]

Coaching career

McNeese State

On June 5, 2014, Joanna Hardin was named the head coach of the McNeese State softball program,[2] replacing Mike Smith who left to be the head coach at Ole Miss.

Virginia

On June 10, 2016, Joanna Hardin was announced as the new head coach of the Virginia softball program.[3][4]

2024 proved Hardin's most successful season at Virginia. The Cavaliers finished the season 34-20 overall and 15-9 in the ACC, tying the Cavaliers for 4th in the conference. In-season highlights included a first ever series win against #11 Clemson and a series win at 3rd-ranked and eventual ACC champion and WCWS participant Duke. The Cavaliers qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010, receiving the regional 2 seed in Knoxville, going 2-2 with wins over Miami (Ohio) and losses to #3 National seed Tennessee.

Joanna Hardin Signs Contract Extension Through 2026

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head softball coach Joanna Hardin has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2026 season which was announced by director of athletics Carla Williams on Tuesday (June 27).

“We are very excited about Coach Hardin and the trajectory of Virginia softball,” Williams said. “The last two seasons have given us a glimpse of what is to come. Outstanding team and individual performances as well as increased fan attendance and back-to-back top 25 recruiting classes are examples of why we are so excited about Coach Hardin and the future of this program.”

Hardin recently completed her seventh season at the helm of the Virginia program after taking over prior to the 2017 season. In her tenure, the Cavaliers have advanced to four ACC Tournaments and earned a postseason bid to the National Invitational Softball Championship in 2022. She has produced one of the program’s four All-America honorees and has coached nine players to All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, five

When Joanna Jane Hardin was born on 26 April 1872, in North Carolina, United States, her father, Christopher Vickory "CV" Hardin, was 39 and her mother, Sybil "Sibba" Jane Foust, was 35. She lived in Greensboro, Guilford, North Carolina, United States in 1943 and Guilford, North Carolina, United States in 1956. She died on 30 October 1956, in Butner, Granville, North Carolina, United States, at the age of 84, and was buried in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pleasant Garden, Guilford, North Carolina, United States.
