Background

Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr., A.K.A. Al Sharpton is an American civil rights activist, talk show host, baptist minister, and political figure whose many political and spiritual ventures have earned him recognition. He’s a Libra, born on October 3, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York City. His parents are Ada Richards and Alfred Sharpton Sr., and he’s of Cherokee descent. After his father left, Sharpton’s family went from middle class to the projects. He attended Samuel J. Tilden High School and then Brooklyn College, where he dropped out in 1975.

In 1969, Jesse Jackson appointed Sharpton as the youth director of Operation Breadbasket’s New York City branch. In 1971, he founded the National Youth Movement, a platform to raise resources for impoverished youth. Sharpton was an instrumental civil rights activist who lent more than his voice to racial prejudice cases like that of Howard Beach, Bernhard Goetz, Bensonhurst, etc. In 1991, Sharpton founded the Na

Reverend Al Sharpton is half the man he used to be -- thanks to a diet in which he eats just one small meal per day.

Reverend Al, who once weighed in well over 300 pounds, is down to less than half that, and he credits a strict diet where he eats nothing but a kale salad with hardboiled eggs, tomatoes, and cucumbers. He's eaten that every day for the past four years around midday -- no breakfast, no dinner. But if he gets too hungry, he allows himself a bedtime treat -- one slice of whole wheat toast.

Sharpton told a Page Six reporter, “At my height [he’s 5-foot-10], maybe 15 years ago, I weighed 305 pounds. Today, I’m 132 pounds. I just made up my mind, and I just did it. Cold turkey."

Sounds like intermittent fasting to me. I'm always interested in how somebody manages to be successful when they're trying to get healthy or lose weight. I'm also a firm believer in what works for some people, may not work for all. And as we've all heard...70% of losing weight happens in the kitchen.
