Kate Williams is a historian and broadcaster. A specialist in modern history, royal and constitutional affairs, she’s Professor of Modern History at Reading University.
She was the co presenter of BBC Two’s RTS nominated Restoration Home and has presented and contributed to many historical shows on TV, including her BBC Two Young Victoria and recent BBC One show on VE Day and travel and talked on shows from The Great British Bake Off to the history of TV election coverage. To accompany the major BBC Two Drama, Versailles, Kate co-presented two series’ of Inside Versailles, delving deeper into the history of the French court. She alsp presented The Stuarts for UKTV and Netflix.
She is the in house historical analyst for CNN – providing expert commentary for news and events such as the DDay anniversary, the commemorations of the Holocaust atrocities and the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. Kate Williams (born 12 December 1941) is an English actress best known for playing Joan Booth in Love Thy Neighbour (1972–1976) and Liz Turner in EastEnders (2006–2010).
She has also played Dorothy Burgess in May to December (1989–1994), Myra Costello in Family Affairs (2003–2005) and Auntie Vera in Birds of a Feather (2015–2016) as well as roles in the films Holiday on the Buses (1973) and Quadrophenia (1979).
Career
Williams is known for three television roles: Joan Booth in the 1970s sitcomLove Thy Neighbour; Teresa in the 1971 BBC play Edna, the Inebriate Woman; and Audrey Withey in the crime drama Widows. She reprised the role of Audrey in both Widows 2 (1985), and 1995 sequel She's Out. In addition to her appearance in Holiday British historian Kate Williams (born November 30, 1974) is a British historian, author, and television presenter. She is a professor of public engagement with history at the University of Reading. Williams grew up in Stourbridge.[2] Her father, Gwyn, was a solicitor and her mother, Margaret, was a teacher.[3] Her paternal grandparents were from the Conwy Valley.[4] She was educated at Edgbaston High School for Girls, Birmingham. She studied for her BA and DPhil at Somerville College, Oxford, where she started as a college scholar and received the Violet Vaughan Morgan University Scholarship. She has MAs from Queen Mary, University of London and Royal Holloway, University of London.[5] She began researching Emma Hamilton while studying for her doctorate. Williams has lectured MAdegree studies in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, University of London.
