John Bonham Biography
John Bonham (31 May 1948 – 25 September 1980), also known by his nickname ‘Bonzo’, is celebrated as being one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, remaining a constant source of inspiration to generations of drummers since his work in the Rock band Led Zeppelin.
Early Years
John Henry Bonham was born on 31st May 1948 in Redditch, Worcestershire, in the Midlands of England:
His birth was an eventful occasion with labour lasting 26 hours, after which, his heart stopped beating. The doctor had left the ward, so the nurse on duty called for another doctor who managed to revive him. The nurse later said it was “a miracle” that the baby had survived.
John was the eldest of three children by his parents Joan Isobel Sargent and John Henry Bonham. John's younger brother was called Michael and his younger sister was named Debbie Bonham. (Debbie went on to become a successful singer whose album 'For You and the Moon' reached the top 5 in the UK NME chart.)

John Bonham
John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham (31 May, 1948 – 25 September, 1980) was an Englishrockdrummer. He was best known for being a member of Londonhard rock band Led Zeppelin. Bonham is considered one of the greatest rock drummers of all time.
John Bonham's career started in 1967, when he joined the Band of Joy with singer Robert Plant. After having some success, the band broke up. At around the same time, another band called The Yardbirds also broke up. Soon after this, Jimmy Page, the lead guitarist for the Yardbirds, decided to start a new band. This new band, called Led Zeppelin, had Plant on vocals, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards, Bonham on drums and Page playing guitar.
Bonham died after choking on his own vomit in his sleep after drinking forty shots of vodka, and bassist John Paul Jones found him the next morning.

A new biography of John Bonham is due to be released on September 7, according to the book’s Amazon listing.
“Beast: John Bonham and the Rise of Led Zeppelin,” is being published by major US publisher Hachette Books and will include a foreword by Dave Grohl.
Hachette describes the book as the “first biography of Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham” which may come as a surprise to authors Chris Welch and Geoff Nicholls who published their Bonham biography “John Bonham: A Thunder of Drums” back in 2001.
