Former 2-time Olympian & Renowned Coach, Claude Toukene Named Head Coach for College’s New Track & Field Program
Hampton/Virginia Beach, VA (December 4, 2017) – Bryant & Stratton College Hampton & Virginia Beach campuses have officially appointed former Western Branch High School Track & Field Coach Claude Toukene as the College’s Head Coach for its brand new Bobcats Track & Field sports program.
Toukene has an impressive resume in the competitive world of Track & Field spanning more than 25 years. With 14 years serving as head coach for Western Branch now under his belt, Toukene is a former 2 -time Olympian (Atlanta 1996 & Sydney 2000 Games), the recipient of numerous national, state and regional Coach of the Year awards (2014-2017) and has competed in several world and country championship games from Africa & France to Spain & Zimbabwe. He has 23 Virginia AAA Team State Championships, 74 Southeastern District team Championships and has coached over 200 All State Athletes, 102 State Champions, 3 African Championship medalists & 1 Olympian

It gives us great pleasure to recognize Claude Toukene as the Chesapeake Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Toukene is an educator and coach at Western Branch High School. Coach Toukene is married to his lovely wife Joann and they have three children, Johanna, Olivia, and Jean-Claude.
Coach Toukene currently serves as a Special Education Teacher and has been the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Western Branch High School since 2004. He received a Baccalaureate degree in math and physics in 1994 from Cameroon. He graduated from Norfolk State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Exercise Science and a minor in math. He then received a Master’s Degree in Education from Cambridge College. Coach Toukene is fluent in five languages.
Coach Toukene ran track as a college and post-collegiate athlete. He was the captain of the Cameroon National team from1998 to 2005. He competed in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Games as a sprinter. He also competed in 4 W

Bio
Claude Toukene currently serves as a Special Education Teacher and the Head Cross Country, Track and Field Coach at Western Branch High School. Graduated from Norfolk State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, cum laude, majoring in Exercise Science and minor in math. Received a Master’s Degree in Education from Cambridge College. He is a certified special education teacher and French teacher and has also taught math. Career aspiration is to further his education and become a physical therapist /orthopedics. Several goals, to include helping people with rehabilitation, congenital defect and working with injured athletes. Additionally, intends to teach at the college level as well as continue to employ counseling abilities to develop young men and women to become productive citizens. Claude Toukene is fluent in five languages.
