More About Me

 Ellen Hoobler is the William B. Ziff, Jr., Curator of Art of the Americas at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, MD. Prior to joining the Walters, Hoobler was Assistant Professor of Art History at Cornell College (Mount Vernon, IA), and has also taught at Columbia University and the University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA). Hoobler holds a doctorate from Columbia University in Art History and Archaeology, and an undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies from Wellesley College. A specialist on ancient art of the Americas and its historiography, she is co-editing a volume on exhibiting ancient American art in American art museums, with Dr. Victoria Lyall, as part of the Mayer Center for Latin American Art at the Denver Art Museum. She has also authored a short collection introduction for the Walters' ancient Americas collection, The Spirit Within / El Espiritu Inherente: Art of the Americas. She has various essays awaiting publication, and is the author of  "Smoothing the Path for Rough Stones: The Changing Role of Pre-Columbian Art in the Arensberg
