Barbara Louise Mertz (September 29, 1927 – August 8, 2013) was an American author who wrote under her own name as well as under the pseudonyms Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels. In 1952, she received a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. She was best known for her mystery and suspense novels, including the Amelia Peabody book series.
In the 1960s, Mertz authored two books on ancient Egypt: Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs, a popular history of ancient Egypt; and Red Land, Black Land, which explores daily

Elizabeth Peters (née Williams; 19 April 1919 - fl. 21 April 2022), also known as "Mama Lizzie", was a Saint Helenian centenarian who was the oldest living person in Saint Helena.
Biography[]
Elizabeth Peters was born as Elizabeth Williams on 19 April 1919 in Saint Helena island. Her parents were Thomas and Ida Williams, and they resided at Half-Moon, near Head o’ Wain in Blue Hill, before her first marriage to Donald Scipio of High Point at the age of 22. She had three children before she was widowed at the age of 32. She re-married in her early forties to Charles Peters of Half Tree Hollow and by the age of 45, she had had another four children.
Peters worked in the Flax Mill, the Dairy and at Scotland where she cleaned the insides of tin cans so they could be used to plant seedlings. To help keep her family, she used to collect and sell firewood and fir cones.
