Born August 10, 1928, into a struggling rural family in Olton, Texas, he honed his performing skills in the late 1940s by entertaining his fellow servicemen at Bolling Air Force Base, near Washington, D.C. After his discharge in 1948 he assembled his band, the Texas Wildcats, and worked Washington area clubs, fire halls, and lodges.

“We played every dive in Washington at one time or another,” Dean recalled. “And dives is what they were.” Soon he was broadcasting on live radio shows organized by country music entrepreneur Connie B. Gay and aired over radio station WARL.

In 1952, Dean’s career received a boost from Fred Foster, eventual founder of Monument Records. When he first saw Dean perform at Washington’s Covered Wagon club, Foster was just breaking into the business with local music publisher Ben Adelman. Describing Dean, Foster told Adelman, “He may not be the greatest singer in the world, but he communicates with the audience like you cannot believe.” Foster and Adelman arranged for West Coast label 4 Star Records to issue Dean’s recording of “Bummin

Jimmy Ray Dean (August 10, 1928 – June 13, 2010)[1] was an American country music singer, television host, actor and businessman. He was the creator of the Jimmy Dean sausage brand as well as the spokesman for its TV commercials, and his likeness and voice continue to be used in advertisements after his death.[2]

He became a national television personality starting on CBS in 1957. He rose to fame for his 1961 country music crossover hit into rock and roll with "Big Bad John" and his 1963 television series The Jimmy Dean Show gave puppeteerJim Henson his first national exposure with his character, Rowlf.

His acting career included appearing in the early seasons in the Daniel Boone TV series as the sidekick of the famous frontiersman played by star Fess Parker. Later, he was on the big screen in a supporting role as billionaire Willard Whyte in the James Bond fil

I, James Byron Dean, was born February 8, 1931, Marion, Indiana. My parents, Winton Dean and Mildred Dean, formerly Mildred Wilson, and myself existed in the state of Indiana until I was six years of age. Dad’s work with the government caused a change, so Dad as a dental mechanic was transferred to California. There we lived, until the fourth year. Mom became ill and passed out of my life at the age of nine. I never knew the reason for Mom’s death; in fact, it still preys on my mind. I had always lived such a talented life. I studied violin, played in concerts, tap-danced on theatre stages, but most of all, I like art, to mold and create things with my hands. I came back to Indiana to live with my uncle. I lost the dancing and violin, but not the art. I think my life will be devoted to art and dramatics. And there are so many different fields of art it would be hard to foul-up, and if I did, there are so many different things to do–farm, sports, science, geology, coaching, teaching music.
