Bernie Nolan: Singer who had hits with her sisters and went on to a successful acting career

Bernie Nolan was one of the six Nolan Sisters who in the 1970s and ’80s achieved success with their own characteristic brand of bubbly cheeriness which made them television and recording favourites. Though never quite in the front rank, either on television or in the pop charts, they were nevertheless for years a popular staple on the entertainment scene as good-looking women who could sing well and dance a little.

Regular appearances with performers such as Morecambe and Wise and the Two Ronnies kept them in the public eye, while their records sold well - they were, for some reason, particularly popular in Japan. Two years ago Bernie Nolan was given the all-clear after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Over the moon, Bernie set about rebuilding her life and making plans for the future.

The Nolans star revealed in October (12) she is fighting the disease again, just two years after doctors gave her the all-clear from breast cancer.

The 52 year old has been told by medics she is nearing the end of her life after the cancer spread to her lungs, liver, and bones, and it has now been revealed the singer has been writing about her latest health battle for a new autobiography, entitled Now and Forever.

Fenella Bates, editorial director of publishing company Hodder & Stoughton, says, "Bernie Nolan is an incredibly brave and inspiring woman. As soon as she received the diagnosis last summer, her first thought was of her daughter.
